Fog, although it might disappoint lots of people, can be a photographer’s best friend. One of the things it does best is isolate a subject or de-emphasize a background which it does here.

This original fine art photograph of rocks, green grass and yellow flowers was taken at Doughton Park which is along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. It was a foggy day. The fog reduced the distraction of the background distant trees, but still allowed the brilliant yellow flowers to show through.

This scene is not far from the Bluffs Restaurant in Doughton Park. It was closed for about 10 years, was finally reopened but stayed open only about a week before it was closed due to health concerns of the staff and customers in the Covid-19 crises. It is scheduled to be reopened in the Spring of 2021 – pandemic willing.

Doughton Park has always been a well-known spot for visitors along the 469 mile long Blue Ridge Parkway. The landscape is beautiful and there are miles and miles of good trails to hike. Even with the restaurant currently closed as well as the famous Bluff’s Lodge, it is still a worthwhile destination for those who visit the parkway.

Pack a picnic lunch. There are tables and benches to eat at as well as grills ready to be used to grill your hot dogs, hamburgers, or whatever it is you choose to cook. Have a nice lunch, relax, then hike one of the many trails. Doughton Park really is one of the premier destinations along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
